Some people live to eat, so they eat anything and everything they can find. Then there are others who eat to live, so they eat selectively and just enough to nourish the system and maintain good health.
What we eat is very important because the body needs certain building blocks to keep it functioning properly. One of the building blocks that the body need is enzymes. Enzymes are need to assist with the breaking down of food and to aid in digestion. Each food when it is alive has its enzyme that is needed to break it down. If is a carbohydrate food it has the enzyme amylase, if it is a fatty food it has lipase, if it is a protein food it has protease etc. When we cook food at high temperature we destroy the enzymes and the food becomes dead food. Enzymes are the life force in the food; that is why if you take a potato out of the ground and put it down long enough it will stay there and sprout because the enzyme--the life force--is there. As mentioned above high temperature, over 120 degrees Fahrenheit, destroys enzymes; thus the food becomes dead food-food without the life giving force. It is recommended that the ideal diet is 75 to 80 percent raw food and 25 to 20 percent cooked.
When we are young we have an abundance of enzymes. As we get older and eat primarily cooked food we deplete our enzyme reserve. And although the body makes some enzymes it is not enough to take care of all the tasks that need to be done in the body and help with digestion at the same time. So because of a lack of enzyme, to help breakdown food, we experience improper digestion.

It is just so sad that as adults now we are learning all of this good stuff, when I wish I could have been taught this as a child growing up.
ReplyDeleteI know as a child we don't often listen to reason especially coming from our parents.
But now a days, nutrituion has become a major concern for a lot of families.
I try my best to cook healthy, and snack heathly.
It amazes and shocks me how popular McDonald's still is, and how much kids are still given soda as a refreshment to drink.
